Treating "it works and it is optimal" as the prompt for a deeper discussion rather than the end of one — Palantir is explicit about wanting this. Good to know going in.
Enumerating alternatives you rejected and why, discussing tradeoffs, failure modes — this is just good engineering communication in general. They formalize it.
