Before you write a single line, ask how the exercise is structured. Ten seconds of asking would have saved this whole loop. Adding this to my pre-interview checklist.
An information gap not a skill gap — and it was completely avoidable. That is the most frustrating kind of rejection.
Did you raise this with the recruiter afterward? Seems like a process failure on their side.
